OPAC SERVICES
OPACs (Online Public Access Catalogue) are online libraries’ catalogues, that can be consulted through computer terminals connected to the Internet. New OPACs operate through http protocol and a simple browser installed on your computer is sufficient.
This facility allows you to:
- check the library catalogue directly from your PC, wherever its geographical location
- do research in more libraries quickly and at the same time
- do research using different crossed keys
CASPUR has developed several OPACs, the latest of which is now used by the Rome Public Libraries RML Pole (Biblioroma).
OPAC places at the user’s disposal different procedures for finding the required index cards. Users can select by author, subject, title and kind; moreover, you can ask for the entire catalogue or a single library’s, and select old or modern material or both. Index cards provide all the information about the book’s classification, allowing you to find it.
Our service includes all the necessary applications and systems for the correct working of the different installations:
- OPAC data monthly updating
- Access statistics
- Data incremental backup
- Database management on dbms DB2 IBM
- Server Linux systems activity
- Graphic layout personalization
Furthermore, on the customer’s request, we evaluate possible variations and/or improvements to our OPAC functionalities.
Technical details
OPACs are housed on a Linux mainframe with 1 GB RAM and 120 GB space disk; web server Apache; dbms DB2 IBM. |
