LIBRARY AUTOMATION SERVICES TO ROMA TRE UNIVERSITY
Roma Tre University Library System (Sistema Bibliotecario di Ateneo - SBA) is organized into four areas, with 13 libraries running all their services through computers linked to a common server at CASPUR, in sharing cataloguing. The University Bibliographical Catalogue, consisting of about 300.000 bibliographic records, allows the user to get information on the University’s 400.000 volumes. Bibliographical information and the availability of books are updated online. The catalogue is managed by an Aleph500 integrated system, which allows different functions such as periodical management, circulation, acquisition and automated loans, online booking of documents at the time on loan, emailing of research results.
CASPUR provides Roma Tre University with all the services necessary for the system’s correct functioning:
- Aleph server system activity
- Database management
- Start-up and control of libraries, users and print backlogs
- Bibliographic records upload and download procedures
- Automated loan management support, aided by a self-check function
- Personalization of software
- Developing of procedures for a link between catalogued records and other University’s electronic resources
- Library registry management and maintenance
Technical details
Aleph500 is housed on a SUN Ultra R220 server with UNIX Solaris 2.7 operating system, 2 RAM GB and 70 GB space disk. Software is by Ex-Libris and distributed in Italy by Atlantis. |
