INROMA AND NAMEX
Besides basic management, the network administrators’ task includes the development and planning of InRoma network activities.
InRoma is an Internet access network – completely separated from the research network (GARR) – that CASPUR offers to its non-scientific clients. InRoma is a LIR at RIPE, and has its own AS and networks. Internet access is currently carried out in dual-homed mode, for example with a double connection via two independent channels on different workstations via Colt-Telecom and Unidata. As an ISP, InRoma provides the following services:
- ADSL
- Internet connection via dedicated line
- Dial-up access
- Housing
- Homing
- Co-location
Since 1995 we have run NaMeX, the ISP exchange point hosted at CASPUR. At the moment, NaMeX includes twenty ISPs and is the main exchange point in central and southern Italy, and is the second on a national scale. It represents not only the Italian Internet backbone’s pillar, but also for an important meeting place between the academic world and that of ISP. |
