OPEN ACCESS
Within the initiatives to straighten the open access, CASPUR offers consulting and technical support to Italian universities and research agencies according to the principles of Berlin Declaration signed by CASPUR. Moreover, CASPUR in collaboration with CILEA, runs PLEIADI, a service provider to the Italian institutional archives, attends conventions, conferences and partecipates in national and international initiatives related to open access. It is also member of SPARC-Europe.
The services offered by Caspur are based on open source software and consists of the following activities:
- Consulting, implementation and maintenance of open access systems compliant to the international standards (es. OAI-PMH)
- Hosting facilities and software configuration for the organization and management of open archives (e.g. institutional repositories) containing full text articles and reports (e-prints and book collection), theses and didactic materials as well as electronic editions originated from digitised works (e.g. series of images)
- integration of OAI-PMH archives with single university registration and evaluation systems…)
- integration of OAI-PMH archives with Z39.50 catalogues and OPEN URL complaint linking resolvers
Caspur organizes courses, seminaries and presentations on its premises and at customer’s premises on the following topics:

- OAI Architecture, date and service providers
- EPrints e DSpace

CASPUR is partner of the European project OpenAIRE (Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe).
OpenAIRE aims at giving access to the full-text of scientific articles published within projects funded by the Seventh Framework Program (FP7) in 7 research areas (Energy, Environment (including Climate Change), Health, Information and Communication Technologies (Cognitive Systems, Interaction, Robotics - challenge 4), Research Infrastructures (e-infrastructures), Science in society, Socio-economic sciences and the humanities) covered by the Open Access Pilot, and funded by the European Research Council (ERC).
Moreover, OpenAIRE aims at working with several subject communities to explore the requirements, practices, incentives, workflows, data models, and technologies to deposit, access, and otherwise manipulate research datasets of various forms in combination with research publications.
Italy coordinates about 90 projects, and is partner of 432 projects in different research areas. |
