How to reach Roma
The most practical ways to reach Roma are by flight to Fiumicino airport (FCO) or by train to
Termini central railway station.
From the airport there is a very convenient train which leaves from
the railway 1 of the local station. It reaches the Termini central
railway station in 30 minutes. The train leaves every 30 or 60
minutes, depending on the day time and the ticket costs about 8 Euro.
You are supposed to buy the ticket BEFORE you take the train.
Moreover the ticket must be validated by the yellow machines which are
in the station.
Actually you can buy the ticket on the train, but it costs 50% more...
You can take the cheaper (around 5 Euro), more frequent (every 15
minutes) train to Tiburtina station (railway 3 in the airport
station), and get off the train at Trastevere station. The trip takes
still 30 minutes but you will be a bit far from the Termini station.
However, the next part of the trip (see below) can be really charming.
From Termini station to
hotels and conference site
Termini station is big and crowded. Pay attention to your pockets and bags...
You can reach Center (1, 2 or 3) Hotels (V. Giolitti 433) from Termini
station by walk in about ten minutes (see the map). Porta Maggiore
Hotel (Piazza Porta Maggiore 25) requires a bit more, say 15 minutes
(see the map). In any case you should exit from the station on the Via
Giolitti side.
If you are going to the hotels, Center (1, 2 or 3) Hotels (V. Giolitti 433) is at a 12 minutes
walk from Termini (see the map), Porta
Maggiore Hotel (Piazza Porta Maggiore 25) is a couple of minutes farther (see the map).
In both cases you'll have to exit the station on the Via Giolitti side.
You can reach the conference venue in 15 minutes by walk from the
Termini station (see the map). In this case you should exit from the
station on the Via Marsala side.
If you prefer to take a taxi, you can find them at the parking in
front of the station. Official ones are white, with a black and red
"TAXI" sign on top. The trip to hotels or conference site should cost
about 6 Euro, not more (well, it actually depends on the bags).
NEVER TRUST unofficial taxi drivers, the guys not sitting in their cars
who approach you as soon as you exit from the station.
From Trastevere station to
hotels and conference site
If you are not tired from the travel, this can be a fascinating experience.
Take the tramway n. 3 (it starts from there, tickets must be bought in
advance).
If you are going to the hotels, get off at the Porta Maggiore stop and pass
through the ancient roman gate. The Porta Maggiore Hotel will be right in front
of you, slightly on the left, the Center (1, 2, or 3) Hotels are round the
corner (see the map).
If you are going directly to the conference site, get off in Piazzale Verano
and walk up Via De Lollis (see the map)
to reach in 3 minutes the conference building.
During its trip (15-25 minutes) the tramway will pass by the most fascinating
ancient roman ruins.
If you are tired for the travel and prefer to take a taxi, this is the
wrong place to come, go to Termini station, instead.
